Consulting Services: Cloud Computing

What is Cloud Computing?

With any new hype, there are many different opinions on what it really means e.g. for one opinion read wikipedia on Cloud Computing

We think it is hard to define, but feel that cloud computing is a Virtual Server environment that can be started quickly < 20 Min and Stopped Quickly < 20 Min. Examples would be Amazon EC2, GoGrid.

Cloud computing properties:

  • Able to Launch and Stop one or multiple Instances of a Server through an API
  • Root Access to a Virtual Server
  • Launch an Instance in Less than 20 Min
  • Stop an Instance any time you like
  • You control the Instance life-cycle

Amazon Web Services

For our Manufacturing Automation applications we use the Amazon Web Services 'Cloud Computing'. We have extensive experience with the following Amazon services:

  • EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud)
  • S3
  • SQS
  • CloudFront
  • SimpleDB

Computing on the Cloud is easier than you think. We managed to migrate a rented server with SSL to an Amazon instance in less than 2 days. We now are saving money and are no longer and stuck with 6 month or 1 year commitments, reducing our risk of paying for something we might not need.

This also gave us the ability to scale up much quicker. It used to take us about 1 week to get a server online and running for a customer and now we can launch a new server in less than an hour. These benefits and the reliability has made it a Ideal solution for us and would be an Ideal solution for many other companies.

We can help you get running using Amazon EC2 and S3 services. We can also go over the pricing and cost involved in hosting on an Amazon Instance. We have experience in using both LAMP and MS type instances and getting them running quickly. We can help you in your move to Amazon.
